Does Inbound Marketing Work?

Yes, inbound marketing is effective internet marketing. You can expect more traffic, more low-cost leads, and more sales.

More Traffic

A recent study found that after 12 months of active inbound marketing, customers starting with 1 to 199 monthly website visitors experienced 7.8 times more traffic. Those starting with 200-499 visitors per month observed an average 17 percent increase in monthly traffic. Overall, users experienced an average 13 percent increase in visitors month-to-month.1

More Low Cost Leads

Leads from Blogging, Social Media and SEO channels cost less than any outbound channel (direct mail, telemarketing, trade shows). On average, customers who use inbound services get 32% more leads per month after just three months. Among those who had not captured leads prior to inbound marketing, users on average had 33 leads per month after 5 to 7 months. This number increased to 103 leads per month among customers who used inbound marketing for at least 11 months.1

More Sales and Return on Investment

After 12 months of active use, 64 percent of inbound marketing users said sales increased, and 18 percent said sales increased by at least 25 percent. Of those who observed an increase, 58 percent saw the increase within 5 to 7 months of use.

Inbound marketing-dominated organizations experience a 61% lower cost per lead than outbound marketing dominated organizations. In 2012 the average cost per lead was $135 for inbound marketers to outbound’s $346. That’s a 61% difference!2

What Are the Most Important Marketing Channels?

Businesses increasingly see blogs, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter as critical to their bottom line. The graph to the left shows the percentage of users who rated the channel as either “critical” or “important” in 2009 and 2012.
